CONGRATULATIONS
Ms Zyndie Wai, winner of the Logo + Tshirt Design Contest. She has won herself a $30 Borders Gift Card and a sponsored T-shirt with her logo design.

Her logo design will be retouched and the final design of the logo will be inaugurated during the Week 0 Orientation in APRIL!

Note: Prize presentation will happen during the Orientation.

	Designer's say... "For the front: One side of the sleeve is labelled PSY/GEN, to identify us. At the bottom is Humanities and Social Sciences in cool font. The Logo shows how dynamic HSS can be (1 big square and 4 small squares, or just a 4 headed arrow?). ----- For the back: Only quitters won’t succeed so we cannot be quitters of anything else but only quitters of the quitters! It’s like a motivating motto? The posture of the stickman represents the strength in us." - Jesslyn

	Designer's say... "The logo is basically made up of the letters HSSSC. Two of the Ss are drawn in a way that is symmetrical to one another such that is shows the equality in abilities in the students of HSS. The letter V is added below to show that what ever we do, are always will look forward to winning, in another word, Victory. The letter V at the same time creates the overall heart-shaped effect of the logo which represents that the students of HSS are people that are willing to give lots of love to the people around them as well as their loved ones. ----- The design is basically base on the term psychologist. As the recent trend is about reading funny things on other people’s shirt, I have decided to come up with a design that would mislead people into thinking that we are ‘psychos’ but in actual fact, the message that the shirt is trying to convey is that we all wants to become psychologist (if not why choose this course?). The spiral background basically helps to make the readers of the shirt feel as though they were being hypnotised." - Zyndie

	Designer's say... "My design is titled ‘Tree of Life’. It can also be known as the ‘Tree of Knowledge’. Every HSS student resembles a single branch. The leaves on each branch signifies the knowledge that one has collected or managed to let it nurture (grow). The stem of the tree depicts our thick bond with our knowledge-givers (e.g. the lecturers, teachers, tutors, advisors). It is rounded up into a teardrop-like shape to signify a whole. A team, together, on a quest for more knowledge! Knowledge is power! :D ----- I want HSSSC to be a team, no matter what. And relating to the above logo submission, the slogan ‘One team. One dream.’ refers to our quest for more knowledge together. The team part signifies us helping one another out whenever needed and shows our close bond with each other. There is nothing that evokes a stronger emotion than joining your closest friends together on a mission, on a dream that all of us hope will be realized someday." - Shu Yun

	Designer's say... "I’ve chosen 3 main colours for this design, red, orange and yellow. Mainly because our course is about fun! Since psychology is studying about human behaviour and our mental processes, the blocks represent the thoughts that are like music frequencies in our minds everyday. ----- The headphones are attached to the ipod which has a design of I love people on the screen. Music is an essential part in our teenage life. Thus, it means that we are interested in learning about the way people think and behave and by lending a helping ear to people who are in need. 	Designer's say... "The logo's style (shape and zigzag lines) is based on the shield of Achilles, who was arguably the greatest of all Grecian warriors. It is apt that HSS has the shield of Achilles as our logo as we are arguably the best of all TP schools. Also, the shield is a protective instrument of war. It fends off blows from the enemy in battle. HSS cares for its students the same way a shield cares for its bearer. The words 'Humanities & Social Science' at the top of the logo proudly declare the name of our school. The words at the bottom are Latin. It says 'what man is a man who does not make the world better?’. We are HSS. We exist to make the world a better place. The constellation on the logo is the Little Dipper, and the biggest star is Polaris, the North Star. It is the star that guides sailors to their destiny. Like Polaris, HSS guides its students to the pinnacles of success. The HSS values splayed out on the logo are the final touch of excellence to the design. ----- Utter simplicity. This design is the symbol of Zeus, the king of the gods in Greek mythology. The three thunderbolts represent strength, courage and justice. In HSS, strength is our core and courage is never lacking. All that is given is justly rewarded: fealty with love, valour with honour, treachery with vengeance. The thunderbolts are blazed crimson orange, the colour of our school. Orange is associated with joy and enthusiasm. It is the symbol of endurance and strength. The colour also indicates all things growing and new beginnings. Simply put, HSS is orange personified."- Alexander Tee

Judging Criteria

Judging Criteria...

First round judging

In order to make the competition fair, judges are not allowed to participate. (SOBS) Submissions will be reviewed by the sub-committee and the advisor, who will decide on the designs that go into the 2nd round of judging. All submitted designs must:

Be original
Reflect the HSSSC values
Must be complete and ready for print
Incorporate the school colour (orange)

Second round judging

The short-listed designs will be posted online at a voting page in a blog. Students will be informed by email of the address at a later date.

Voting is opened to HSSSC members only. This accounts for 40% of the marks. 60% of the marks will be judged by a panel of judges that includes 2 members of the HSSSC Main Committee, 1 advisor and a non-participating student of HSSSC.

Voting closes on 7 November 2008 (Fri) 23:59 hrs.

(seriously, don't get intimidated by the number of rules and regulations)

Design Guidelines

The T-shirt design must incorporate the logo.
Your design should represent the values of HSSSC – Humility, ReSponsibility, ReSpect, Sincerity and Caring.
The T-shirt should be something that can be worn by any HSSSC Students, be it students from Psychology Studies or Gerontological Management Studies, etc.
Your design can only be on the back of the T-shirt. The logo will be on the front of the shirt.
You may submit as many designs as you want, but each design must be on a separate entry.
Your design must be original and does not contain any copyrighted materials.

Design specifications

Any submitted design becomes the property of HSSSC.
HSSSC will have all rights to the submitted designs. By participating in this contest the participants must agree for their submitted designs to be used by HSSSC on a T-shirt and other promotional items.
HSSSC reserves the right to make adjustments to the winning design.
Entries must be submitted by 31 October 2008 (Fri) 23:59 hrs.
Entries will be judged by 2 members of the HSSSC Main Committee, 1 advisor and a non-participating HSS student.
Winners will be contacted by email and a prize-giving ceremony will be held on 17 December 2008 (Wed).
